A Black Locust Tree (Robina pseudoacacia) that was felled in the wake of the Ike Storm that blew threw the Mid-west.
The tree seemed quite healthy, I suspect it fell because of the very wet soil. When soil becomes too wet and becomes the consistency of pudding, the roots just can't hold on and the weight of the tree brings it right down.

Mother nature certainly can be scary!! Happy WW and thanks for stopping by :)
Yeah, we had a lot of that too... and two tornadoes! Funny that we posted about the same thing. Thanks for visiting my blog and Happy WW!
Wow what amazing (in a scary way) images. This has been such an intense hurricane season.
It is scary what hurricanes can do and so true that when the soil is already wet more come down. We experienced that where I live in the mid 1990s with Hurricane Fran.
It certainly demonstrates the awesome power of nature. Happy WW
hi there - came here through sojourners wordless wednesday ...
interesting re "when soil becomes too wet and becomes the consistency of pudding, the roots just can't hold on and the weight of the tree brings it right down." makes total sense; i just never thought of it that way.

Happy WW! I watched Hurricane Ike in an academic way over the weekend ...then on Sunday the winds got up to 80 miles per hour here in Cincinnati ... and most of the city lost power...
Thanx for your earlier visit! I invite your blog readers to see creative ceiling painting in a 'Smoking Room' on my WW-post this week...
