Uber Amazing Blog Award

I received this award from Ajuan Mance at Black on Campus. Ajuan is one of my Wordless Wednesday Friends gave me this fabulous award. Thanks. The blog is about Higher Education and the African American Experience and each Wednesday he posts some amazing shots of scholars (most of them old B/W, Sepia, sliver nitrate photos) from long ago. It’s awe-inspiring to see portraits of Blacks during the Victorian age or earlier posing in their academic robes. It’s a great reminder. Sadly, too many Black youth of today avoid an education and actually look down on being in school or making good grades. It’s such a sad state, especially considering how precious literacy was Slaves and newly-freed blacks at the time. Thank Ajuan, Keep up the good work.

About the award:
Uber (synonym to Super) Amazing Blog Award is a blog award given to sites who:
~ inspires you
~ makes you smile and laugh
~ or maybe gives amazing information
~ a great read
~ has an amazing design
~ and any other reasons you can think of that makes them uber amazing!
The rules of this award are:
* Put the logo on your blog or post.
* Nominate at least 5 blogs (can be more) that for you are Uber Amazing!
* Let them know that they have received this Uber Amazing award by commenting on their blog.
* Share the love and link to this post and to the person you received your award from.

I pass this award on to:

1. Miriam Goldstein at The Oyster’s Garter. She is my Blogging BFF. She blogs about marine biology and ecosystems and especially invertebrates and occasional environmental/green issues, like me. She’s also attending the ScienceOnline09 Conference (Science Blogging Conference).

2. Barb-Harmony Art Mom Handbook of Nature Study – it is the daily posts of photos and narratives of a family’s everyday outdoor education adventures.

3. Confluence City is a St. Louis Blog. It includes posts about the local art, music and heritage scene with a great big dose of history and culture. I love it. Plus, they gave me my big 'media' break. Thanks!

4. Lisa at Lisa’s Chaos is a fantastic Photography blog, in fact I discovered her blog on Wordless Wednesdays. Her photos should be on a calendar – the color, dimension – aah, her scenes just seem to pop out at you. She also sponsors a couple of giveaways, to sweeten the pot. I got to meet her in real life – a great treat! Next time, we must go picture-taking together. I want to learn how to capture better shots.

5. Rebecca Skloot of Culture Dish. I actually hadn’t heard of this blog until about one week ago. She presently works at one of my alma maters – the University of Memphis. She blogs about popular science and other funny/odd/amazing stories of science and discovery. I’m giving her this award because of her forthcoming book about Henrietta Lacks (HeLa cells for all of the Science groupies our there). I can’t wait to meet her at the Science Blogging conference and attend her talk about Ms. Lacks and the immortal cell line.

6. Wordless Wednesday is actually more of an aggregate of blogs that participate in a weekly phenomenon by the same name. Each hump-day, bloggers post photos and some accompanying words to explain the scene. It’s not actually very wordless, but the focus is the picture. I’m giving WW this award because they bring many different genres of blogs/bloggers together and I like that.

Congratulations!
